Radio Archives...Another Side of Dan Ingram
Dan Ingram was a "staple" in our lives as we grew up in the New York area during the 1960's and 1970's. He was heard on 77 WABC and was known for his quick wit and upbeat style. As I was driving home from school , there was no doubt that I would always chuckle while listening. I remember one time while playing Minnie Ripperton's Loving You, he placed wild birds and hawks squawking in the background of this pretty song. He then started groaning as the song continued. I laughed so hard that the car almost went through a red light at a major intersection!
Did you know that there was a time that Dan Ingram also did a show on WABC-FM now WPLJ? During this time, FM was in it's infancy and the style was very mellow and laid back. It was strange to hear Dan in this very different setting. Here's some information on the show he did on WABC-FM.
The Other Dan Ingram Show
FM Guide - August, 1966
At Bob Lewis' urging, Dan Ingram tried an FM show on Saturday evenings, but Dan overdid trying to not fall back into his AM personality...it was really, really low-key. Dan eventually gave it up supposedly because there was no money in FM.
