Elvis Jet Back on the Auction Block

The following article was published on June 20, 2018 by RTT News.

Elvis Presley's private jet, a 1962 Lockheed Jetstar, grounded for nearly four decades on a runway in New Mexico, is back on the auction block again.

The jet, once owned by Presley and his father Vernon Presley, features a custom designed interior with gold-tone hardware, custom woodwork and inlays, red velvet seats and red shag carpet, as specified by Presley.

Roy McKay, a previous owner of the jet had told KOB-TV that he designed the interior himself and that when he purchased the jet, it had a two-toned gray interior and "kind of looked like a casket."

IronPlanet, the auction site, which is accepting bids for the jet, is confident Elvis designed its red velvet interior. It's spokesperson Lindsay Goldstein says the jet is still grounded in Roswell and the current owner "has not made any changes to this piece of history."

The jet's current owner bought it last year for $430,000. The jet has no engine and its cockpit needs restoring.
