Radio, not Bound By Studio's Anymore

Just about 30 years ago, if we were hired as a DJ or announcer for a radio station, we drove to the studio and spent 4 or 5 hours in the studio broadcasting a live show. There was really no automation and announcers, DJ's and engineers had to generate each element manually. This was a very tiring task. Full time radio stations were manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In today's world, radio stations are automated or at least partially automated. The internet has enabled DJ's or announcers to do their show without having to leave their home. Many radio staff members don't even live in the area where the station is located. Yes this is a great convenience but most of my great radio memories come from a time when I would get in my car, drive a long distance to a radio station and perform a live show. That excitement and slight nervousness made for some great radio!
