Bonnie Pointer Dead at 69


Another music icon is gone. You may remember dancing to her music in the clubs are hearing the hits on the radio. Bonnie Pointer died at age 69. Here's the full story from RTT Music news.

Bonnie Pointer, a founding member of The Pointer Sisters, has died at the age of 69.

Bonnie's sister and former band member, Anita Pointer confirmed Bonnie death in a statement. Bonnie died of cardiac arrest.

"It is with great sadness that I have to announce to the fans of The Pointer Sisters that my sister, Bonnie died this morning," Anita said. "Our family is devastated, on behalf of my siblings and I and the entire Pointer family, we ask for your prayers at this time."

The Pointer Sisters hailed from Oakland, California. Bonnie and her sister June Pointer started the original group in 1969, calling themselves The Pointers, A Pair.

By 1973, the group had included their two oldest sisters, Anita and Ruth. The Pointers' first major hit was "Yes We Can Can." The group won their first Grammy Award for their crossover hit, "Fairytale," in 1974.

Bonnie, who recorded five albums with her sisters, departed from the band to pursue a solo career. She signed with Motown and earned her biggest solo hit with the 1978 disco track "Heaven Must Have Sent You."
