Cover Of The Beatles 'Hello, Goodbye' Used In Mercari Super Bowl Ad

Japanese e-commerce company Mercari has used a cover of The Beatles' "Hello, Goodbye" for their Super Bowl commercial.

The ad, titled "Get Your Unused Things Back in the Game," shows a couple opening their wedding presents to find two similar hot-air popcorn makers as gifts.

The man calls up the Mercari app and takes a picture of one of the poppers. The commercial ends with the extra popcorn maker being used by three roommates as they watch a game.

According to Ultimate Classic Rock, the cover was arranged by Michael Dragovic from the music collective Yessian. Boh Doran, a Los Angeles-based session singer who's released several solo singles, provided the vocals.

"At its core, Mercari is about connecting people," Walter Hangad of Mercari said in a press release. "When people shop on our platform, they are discovering items that will breathe new life into their space. As a seller, they are passing meaningful items on for others to enjoy."

He added, "We chose 'Hello, Goodbye' from the Beatles for this campaign because it perfectly amplifies this concept, as well as the emotion behind it -- one person says 'goodbye' to something they love so another can say 'hello' to a delightful new find."

"Hello, Goodbye" was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon-McCartney. The song was issued as a non-album single in November 1967, the group's first release since the death of their manager Brian Epstein.

Super Bowl LV will take place between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on February 7.
