American rock band The Doobie Brothers were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame by country star Luke Bryan during a special program broadcast live on HBO and HBO Max on Saturday.

Originally scheduled to have been held in May in Cleveland, the event was postponed to November in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and was converted into a virtual ceremony.

"I've loved the Doobie Brothers since the first time I heard them as a kid. I've had the privilege of playing with them onstage, and I can honestly say that they are great guys as well as great musicians," said Bryan, referring to him sharing the stage with the group for a 2011 episode of "CMT Crossroads."

He added, "The Doobies are one of those iconic American bands that seem to have been with us forever, making incredible music, always streaming out of the radio and always playing spectacular live shows."

"Our incredible fans who got us here and stuck with us for over 50 years. We owe you so much. Someday, we'll all be together again, sharing the music and the love," founding member Patrick Simmons said in his acceptable speech.

Active for five decades, the Doobie Brothers earned their greatest success in the 1970s.
