Elvis Animated Action Comedy Coming to Netflix

Believe it or not, Netflix will be airing an animated action comedy about Elvis Presley. Here's the latest from RTT News. On the 42nd anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, Netflix announced that it has ordered adult animated action comedy series "Agent King," featuring the King of Rock as a covert government agent who fights to keep America safe while also maintaining his cover as a rock & roll star. "Elvis Presley trades in his white jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves — all while holding down his day job as the King Of Rock And Roll," Netflix said in a statement about the

Keeping Formats Consistent

Do not "jar" the audience. This is the first point I want to make on this subject. People listen to music on the radio for different reasons mostly for the music. There are a few country radio stations down here in Delaware that feature country music. Some stations, play contemporary country, one station features country music that sounds like country--so Florida Georgia Line would not be heard on this station but Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley or George Strait would. There is also a classic country station that plays only the classics. The audience can pick and choose the country station that appeals to them. Edgewater Gold Radio plays oldies. Our audience knows that they will hear a large variet

Cher Calling for Release of Elephant

When Cher calls, people listen. The music icon is calling for a release of an elephant from the LA Zoo. Here's the full story from RTT News. Cher joined singer-comedian Lily Tomlin and the Voice for the Animals Foundation to call on Los Angeles Zoo authorities to release "Billy" the elephant to a wild animal sanctuary operated by the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to save the animal from pain and to give it more space. They made a joint appeal on August 12, which marked World Elephant Day. "He is in pain both physically and psychologically. He spends 80% of his time rocking back and forth. This behavior is called stereotypical behavior and is widely known to be a sign of distress.

Music that Makes Our Audience Feel Good

It's amazing the positive affect that music has on us. It can help with illness and help lift us our of a dark time. Music has always been part of my life. When I was a kid, I was bullied and didn't like going to school. I always knew that when I got home and turned on my transistor radio, the stress of the day would go away and the day would be little more bearable. Music can also take us far away or remind us of great times. When I get an email or message from a listener telling me that the music I play makes them feel good or made their day a little better, it brings me joy knowing that I made a small difference in someones life. Edgewater Gold Radio has been playing oldies for over 17 ye

There are Oldies and there are Oldies

I get lots of e-mails from listeners that I enjoy reading and responding to all the time. One comment that I receive is that "I love your station, you play songs that I haven't heard in a long time!" That's what makes us unique and a little different from other oldies stations. Programming and balance is very important. Some oldies stations look at the top five or top ten on the Billboard charts for each year and place those songs only in their library. We don't do that. We play all of the very popular oldies just like the other stations but I don't rely only on the charts. For instance Darlene Love had many songs on the charts in the 1960's including "Chapel of Love" that was made popular b

Nightmemories to Air Starting Sept. 3rd

Our new night time show, Nightmemories will air starting September 3rd at 9pm eastern time. The show is designed to feature a softer blend of oldies along with pop vocals and standards during the night time hours. The music will not consist of only downtempo songs but rather a mix of medium to slower and even some uptempo tunes. Delivery will be a little quieter and makes for a great way to unwind at the end of a busy day. This gives us the opportunity to take better advantage of our large library and enables the airing of songs that are not always heard on our station. I hope that you enjoy our new show and remember the great times of your life. Night memories Monday through Friday from 9:0

Summer Brings a "Lull" In Radio Listening

I've been running my internet radio station, Edgewater Gold Radio for over 17 years and I've noticed the same pattern every year. There are two times a year when my listeners drop off a little. The Christmas season and in Summer. Why? The answer is quite simple. During the Christmas season, people are hustling around shopping and also listening to all Christmas radio stations, so there will be a drop during December. Since many listeners listen while working, Summer is a time for relaxation and vacation. Many people are off of work during July and August so radio listening will fall off a bit during these months. This is a normal occurrence and nothing to be concerned about. Come September, l

Abbey Road to be Re- Released

Here's the latest from RTT News regarding the re-release of Abbey Road. Beatles' drummer Ringo Starr has confirmed the band will be releasing a special, 50th anniversary edition of their seminal, 1969 album, Abbey Road. Remastered by Giles Martin, the expanded box-set will include multiple demos and alternate takes on the original tracks. "I've loved all the re-releases because of the remastering," Starr shared in a recent interview with Billboard. "You can hear the drums, which got dialed down in the old days." Meanwhile, Starr has embarked upon a headlining tour across North America alongside his All-Starr Band. Having completed its Japanese leg earlier this year, the tour headed back to t

A Radio Legend is Being Honored!

Growing up in the New York Area, I was privileged to listen to some of the greatest DJ 's ever. One man that, was so instrumental in influencing my radio career was Harry Harrison. I woke up with Harry every day. I sat in on a couple of his shows on WABC and was blown away by entire operation! The talent, timing and energy was infectious ! Harry always told me that if you want something, go for it but understand the nature of the business. Harry was upbeat, and held the top morning show in New York City for many years without insulting or talking down to his audience. He made me feel that every day was going to be great! This year Harry will be inducted into the 2019 Radio Hall of Fame, an

Small Station? Choose a Unique Format

This is my opinion on formats for small, local stations. There is a small, local FM low power station in my area. They've been on the air for almost two years and they've added some good, unique local programming featuring various kinds of music and talk. I will tune in for a particular show because I'm looking for something different or something very local. However, these local shows, do not dominate the programming time. Most of the time, there is 80's based pop music playing. Now this is where I have a problem. I could turn on lots of large FM's or Satellite radio and hear the same thing. Being in my sixties, I don't want to hear this. We live in a resort community and I believe that the

New Program Coming To Edgewater Gold Radio-------Night Memories!

When something is working, making a change can be a difficult decision but I'm a person who needs to try different things. After giving it some thought, I've decided to modify our night time format a bit. I'm creating a program called "Night Memories." This will slow our pace down a bit at night, still featuring the best variety of oldies but concentrating a little more on some great pop vocals and adding them into the mix. We will feature some softer oldies along with some more standards. It will be a great way to wind down the day. The show will air Monday through Friday from 10pm - 5am eastern time. Look for more details as this is still a work in progress!

Keep Your Music Data Base Consistent

Radio automation can be a wonderful tool that makes our lives so much easier but don't get too complacent. Programming our stations takes a lot of work. I voice track about eight hours per day, generate playlists, gather and write public service events in our area and the list goes on. One thing that seems to always get pushed aside is updating and making corrections to the music data base. Sometimes we find that there are misspellings, incorrect data listed even the artist and song title reversed. Yesterday I decided to continue updating my data base and you won't believe how much data that I corrected. It does take time but it's worth it. So you may ask, what's the difference if the song i
