Keeping Our Mind, Body and Spirit Well During this Pandemic

I periodically listen to other internet stations and find music, music, music, recorded liners and more music! That's fine if that's all you care about hearing. Edgewater Gold Radio's main goal is to play a great variety of oldies BUT I believe that bits of important information is helpful to both the local and international audience. We're going through some really tough times with the coronavirus pandemic. People are stressed and lonely. I've added a Wellness Moment to our programming with Dr. Lexi McKenzie who hold a doctorate Metaphysical Science. The program runs about one minute and is aired about 9:15am, 12:00 noon and 3:00pm. This small segment is motivating and uplifting and doesn

Making to Most of Each Day During These Unusual Times

It's been almost six weeks since we were given stay at home orders due to the Coronavirus. Our lives have been turned upside down. Sometimes we just feel overwhelmed or down. So how can we get through each day of the "new normal?" One of the most frustrating things is not knowing when it's going to end. It seems that as we look down that tunnel, we really can't see any light at this point. Food shopping has become a nightmare. We have to make sure we're social distancing while shopping, we have to wear a face covering and try to get out of the store as soon as possible. We now have to wipe down our groceries. This has become an unwelcome weekly event in my life. So what can we do to make th

Put On Your Mask!

Gloria Estefan conveys a very pertinent message in the parody of her 1989 song "Get on Your Feet." She changes the lyrics to "Put on Your Mask." This is my message to you today. Coronavirus is spread very easily and we are far from the end of this crisis. You should always be wearing a mask when in public. This means in supermarkets, pharmacies or where social distancing is not possible. I still see people walking around supermarkets without any kind of face covering. Every time I see a person without a mask, I say to myself "that is a selfish person." That's right, you're selfish because you are putting others who are doing their best to protect themselves and their families safe in great d

News Services and An Escape From Today's News

There are some news services that may be used on internet radio stations or LPFM's. One that comes to mind is FSN or Feature Story News. The service is available to internet and FM radio an is reasonably priced. Edgewater Gold Radio used FSN for a long time but several factors caused me to make a decision to cancel the service. The first was that it was more of an international service which featured lots of news from around the world including the U.S. I really wanted more local coverage. The main reason why I cancelled this service is that we are subjected to so much negative news all the time. It's very accessible everywhere. Edgewater Gold Radio plays oldies and strives to give our aud

Do Your Updates Regularly

Yesterday ,while voice tracking today;s program for Edgewater Gold Radio, I glanced down at the bottom of the screen and noticed that little yellow icon. Time for another update! Windows 10 methodically sends updates about the middle of each month. Even though these updates can be a royal pain, they are necessary to keep your computer running at its best. I usually don't delay updates but schedule them to run after prime time. Windows 10 gives you the ability to choose the date and time. If you don't do this, it will automatically choose a date and time and shut your computer down. I usually choose to run the update about 7pm. This is the time that there's a dip in the prime listening audien

Dangerous Weather In Delaware - All Stations Should Provide Some Kind of Emergency Information

Yesterday, we had a very dangerous weather event here on Delmarva. Heavy rain, dangerous winds and tornadoes! Winds gusting over 70 miles an hour in some cases that caused power outages, downed trees and damage to homes. A wind gust of 79 miles an hour was reported at the Delaware beaches. These gusts were hurricane force. Two tornado watches were issued for Kent and Sussex counties. There was a tornado warning issued in Kent County and various counties in Maryland. If you're an internet music station or a LPFM or even a talk station, unless your trying to be just a jukebox (why bother!) you have an obligation to your community to provide some information about the dangerous weather or emerge

Ignore the Crazies!

I'm reading and receiving a bunch of conspiracy theories regarding the coronavirus. Some posts are going against everything we're doing to flatten the curve and finally get out of this crisis. They are encouraging people to gather in groups, church, movies etc. One post enraged me comparing our self -distancing to our loss of freedom! Unfortunately there are lots of self centered people in this country who only care about themselves. They are poisoned by the right wing smut and are putting millions of US Citizens in danger by ignoring the rules. We have lost some remarkable people to the Coronavirus and the workers on the front lines are putting their lives at risk everyday to help others do

Coronavirus Takes Another Great Talent

It's very sad to report the death of John Prine due to Coronavirus. I became a fan of his back in the 1980's when I ran a folk show at WMGQ (Magic 98.3) in New Jersey. He's another great one gone due to this virus. Here's the official information that was reported to Rolling Stone magazine. John Prine, who for five decades wrote rich, plain-spoken songs that chronicled the struggles and stories of everyday working people and changed the face of modern American roots music, died Tuesday at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was 73. The cause was complications related to COVID-19, his family confirmed to Rolling Stone. We are all saddened that no one is immune to this insidio

Should Music Stations Provide Cornonavirus Information?

We are living in a very unusual, uncertain time right now. There is Coronavirus information on the internet, TV and some talk radio stations but should music stations provide the information as well? There is no answer to this question but I will say. Scanning the local dial here in Delaware, I found little or no music stations providing any local information on the virus. Here's what I do at Edgewater Gold Radio. We are based in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Many listeners are local but a great many are from all over the US and the world. The structure I was taught enables me to keep the music flowing and still provide information on how Covid 19 is affecting us here in Delaware, specifically

Another Entertainer Dies of Coronavirus

As Covid 19 continues to spread throughout our country, we are constantly reminded that no one is immune to this insidious virus. We heard of Tom Hanks and his wife coming down with the virus, yesterday we heard that Chris Cuomo son of the Governor and host on CNN has the virus. So many people and unfortunately too many deaths. Here's the latest from RTT News with the latest casualty.
